Important Issues

by

Pierce Jones

     Oklahoma has a history of trying to improve conditions for consumers and laborers. From 2010 to now Republicans have been in charge. The advances this state had made have been turned around. For example;

  • The majority party has been trying to change retiree benefits. Why would you expose pensioners to the whims of the stock market?

  • Education funding is less than it was seven years ago. Student enrollment is at an all time high. The students with the best education have the most options in life. Why deny our children any chances in their future?

  • Wages have been set at an unlivable low point. Why force poverty on the workers in this state?

     The current majority party thinks it is unfair for workers to have paid sick or vacation days. They are tearing down our infrastructure with service cuts that are a direct result of lower taxes. Changing the voting laws in this state mutes the voice of the people at all levels of government.

     I can’t tell you what my opponent will do. Will he continue the trends his party has started?  Ask him does he agree with tearing at the safety net retirees depend on?  Does he have a plan to pay for an increase in the education budget? Are there other benefits he will take from the labor force in Oklahoma? Or will he restore and expand those benefits labor fought so hard for? Since my opponent has such uncertain positions, here are my stated and solid values.

I value protection. I will vote against leaving our retirees to face an uncertain future.

I value opportunity. I will find a way to increase education funding for all students in our state.

I value fairness and worker wealth. I will try to give back benefits to laborers who are dependable and hard working. I will try to reverse the ban on minimum wage raises.

I value community. I will end corporate giveaways that are weakening the common good we need to pursue a fulfilling life.

     These values I believe are the same values the voters of District 40 share. When you mark your ballot in November please remember what has happened the past two years. Protection, opportunity, fairness, prosperity, and community are what I offer for the next two years. I’m asking for your vote. God bless you and God bless Oklahoma.

Thank you,
